"Are you ready to
light fire (on the 'Dai' character)?" Responding to the big
voice, signals from melody pipes rang in places, which means "OK."
At 8:00pm, the fire put on the torch situated in the center of the
mountain with "Dai" character. 
On August 16th, the Great Bonfire Event hold at the 5 mountains
in Kyoto city.
Solemn state of mind to send holy spirit out will be placed in the
flame.
Around the top of the Daimonji-mountain in Sakyo-district, Kyoto city, the fire will be put on 75 spots all at once. The fire goes up in blistering pace to the hight of 3 or 4 meter long. Sometimes, swinging in the wind, the fire spark spatters around.
From the top of the mountain commands Kyoto city, the flashes of cameras from the city look like jewels. That beautiful spectacle can be wrapped in sigh by visitors filled the mountain with admiration every year.
As the fire will be turned
on one after another, the characters with orange flame reflect against
the dark sky with moon, and create a fantastic world.

What's the Daimonji in Kyoto!?
|
On August 16th at 8pm, the letter " large " " strange/ method ", the shape of the fire such as boat and Torii are ignited one after another in the mountain around the Kyoto valley.
"Daimonji gozan okuribi" is one of the four significant event (mallow festival,Gion festival,age festival,and daimonji gozan okuribi), signifies the spirit sending.
"Gozan" means five mountains. It's the Buddhism event in which the spirit of ancestor is sent to the pure land beyond the mountain.
